5 cool things we did this summer

Summers in Europe are short, so here's how we have tried to live it up during those precious few warm and school-free weeks:

1. Chilled in Oma and Opa's backyard and played a lot of soccer on Opa's incredibly well manicured front lawn.

Anna interrupted her play to strike a pose as soon as she noticed the camera...

2. Had a big party in honor of our soon-to-be first grader.

In Germany, starting elementary school is a big deal that's celebrated with the whole family. Since we live on the other side of the country, though, and Max's big day isn't until the end of the month, we decided to have an advance party with the East German side of the fam at my parents' house.

It's great to have relatives that will do just about anything to humor a six-year old... :)

3. Rode a lot of rollercoasters at Belantis amusement park in Leipzig.

Anna's favorite was the giant swing boat, which she got to ride exactly once before the supervisor pulled her off for being 0.5 cm below the minimum required height. Seriously?! Was it worth the gigantic 20-minute fit she threw in response?!?

5. Had loads of fun with our Texan friends, the Woffindens.

Anna and Kaylee got along so well this time around! (Oh my gosh, Doreen, look at that picture - it's you and I all over again!)

5. Celebrated our 11th anniversary by going on a fabulous 2-day trip to Dresden.

Beautiful, isn't it?

It is beautiful. We went to the redneck las vegas aka gatlinburg, for an anniversary trip. Hopefully next year well get to see pretty things like that... :)

So fun that you have a party for the kid before school.

You and me all over. That's what I thought every single time I saw those two together... Miss you guys already.
